The Filmstrip
The User Interface is very easy to navigate and you will notice that CloneDVD mobile does not have any menus. It is arranged in the form of a "filmstrip" that takes you through all required operations step by step, until the copying process begins. All the settings you need to consider are in the filmstrip! You cannot overlook anything! The program is so designed that if the minimum required user input for a particular frame is not complete, you cannot go on to the next frame. The “Next” button remains inactive until you satisfy the minimum conditions to proceed. Here you can learn the general steps to produce a portable movie file with CloneDVD mobile. In this example, we show you how to create a DivX file as shown also in the CloneDVD mobile tutorial on our homepage.
HINT: Use the right mouse button! Apart from the context sensitive help, some additional functions can only be selected via the right mouse button. The symbol on the left will call your attention to right mouse button context menus in this manual.
Start
Please make sure that you have everything needed for processing your DVD:- a DVD-reading device (a DVD-ROM or a DVD-writer)
- the original retail movie DVD
- sufficient hard-disk space on your PC for the created ouput movie file
First you are asked to select the output format you want for your particular device. Highlight the output format required by your mobile device. Note there are other informational items on the initial start frame.
- "About": Here you find the version number and your registration information, including the license number.
- "Preferences": Here you activate or deactivate automatic update notification or modify sounds produced at various stages of the process
- "Help": Opens this help file
Click "Next" when you are ready to proceed to the next frame in the filmstrip.
HINT: Please visit our website periodically to check for new versions of CloneDVD mobile. To do so, click the Slysoft "Fox" logo above the "About" button and select "Download".
Title Configuration
Put the original retail DVD in your DVD-reader or DVD-writer if not already inserted. Now select the drive letter where the DVD is located. You can access the explorer for browsing to the DVD drive with a click onto the small button with the orange arrows at the upper right. Select the Video_TS folder on the source DVD. The DVD movie data loads.NOTE: You will see an error message if your DVD is CSS-encoded and CloneDVD mobile cannot load it. Always run AnyDVD in the background while working with CloneDVD mobile.
On the left hand side you see two tabs. You can either see "Information" about the selected title or a "Preview" of that title.
- Select the title now you want to convert if you prefer something other than "main movie".
The main movie usually is the title with the longest playtime and in this example it is "Title 1", which is tyical.
- Split a movie: If you want to split your movie into two parts, click onto the scissors symbol under the lower right corner of the preview screen.
The quality of the output file won't change. Only the size changes. The following image appears:
Move the left or the right triangle to the chapter where you want to start your "cut". Do this in reverse to convert the second part of the movie.
Selecting the "Preview" tab lets you view the selected title. The default is "Title 1" but you can select any title to preview it.
Select any title and then click the “Play“ button (green triangle) directly under the preview panel. You can change the playback speed (1x-8x) by clicking with the right mouse button inside the preview panel. The movie preview allows you to easily identify each title available for backup if you want something other than "main movie only", which is the default. Please note that there is no sound output during this preview.
Now click "Next".
Audio Settings
Most movies offer several audio streams. In this window, the available audio streams are shown. Select the language you prefer for your output movie.
On this screen the available audio streams are shown. Select the preferred language here.
- You can only select one audio stream with each title.
- Please note that the AC3/2 audio stream usually is the director's comment (only).
- You can also select corresponding subtitle content if available on the DVD.
A click on "Next" will take you to the next step.
Output Method
On the left-hand side, you find a summary of your selected title and properties. On the right-hand side you can alter the output file settings.
On the right side of this frame you can fine-tune the settings (if you want to) and further define the ouput file and the label name or allow the defaults.
- Resolution: Select the resolution you want to have for the converted output file.
If you double the resolution, the file size will be doubled as well. - Video Quality: You can adjust the quality of the output video file by moving the slider. Increasing the quality level increases the file size. A click on the button to the right of this slider resets the quality to its default value. You can also see the estimated file size in order to determine whether there is enough space remaining on your hard drive. We recommend trying the default quality setting first.
- Enter the file name CloneDVD mobile is to write: Here you can select the name for the stored output file and also the location on your hard disk where it should be saved ( e.g. D:\MyVideos\nameofmovie.avi )
- Label: Choose a simple, short name for this field or take the default. Sometimes the player will display the label name of the original DVD - or the file name. This depends on the player you use.
HINT: Create a seperate folder on your harddisk (like on the Desktop) for storing the converted files. This will save you a lot of time.
If you use a portable DVD player that supports DivX, you can burn two high-quality movie files onto one normal single-layer DVD blank using a burning program for that purpose.
A click on "Go!" takes you to the last frame of the filmstrip.
Transcoding the movie
On the left hand side you see three tabs. You can see incremental "Snapshots", a final "Summary" of the settings or the "Log" panel.
The tab functions are:
- Snapshot: Individual picture snapshots show you which part of the movie is being transcoded at that exact moment
- Summary: Here you see all your previously set personal selections
- Log: Here you see the processes in CloneDVD mobile as they occur. The "log" panel information is also what you would send to SlySoft support should you run into processing problems.
- "Clear": Here you can delete the content of the Log window
- "Save": Saves technical details about the copy process to the last selected directory
- "Save as": Here you can save technical details about the copy process on the hard disk with a specific name of your choice
- "Debugging information": Shows technical details about debugging - may be requested by SlySoft support
- "What’s this?": Opens the context help
You can open the following context menu with a right-click in the log window:
Finishing
After the transcoding completes, CloneDVD mobile notifies you with a "Success" sound with the creation of the output media file.HINT: When you click "Cancel" before the transcoding process completes, the incomplete ouput file will remain in the output folder you specified. You will have to manually delete that incomplete file afterwards. Of course you can over-write it if you repeat the project.
Well, that's it for starters. Now you can:
- press "Save transcoder log" to save a log file of the transcoding process or
- press "Go!" again to start the same transcoding process anew (this will overwrite the already created file with the same file name) or
- press "Back" to go back one frame and adjust the settings for this transcoding process or
- press "Restart" to start all over from the very first step.
